Winding: A Screwed Up World

A world-building experiment, Winding is an imagined world inspired by a screw – where its ubiquity and unique purpose find parallels.

Winding thrives on constant, meaningless motion, facilitated by an infinite network of levitating trains endlessly moving passengers along. Turning is what a screw is uniquely made to do; ironically this same purpose is fulfilled when things are connected and it ‘dies’ when the turning stops. So it is for Winding.

Winding: A Screwed Up World and Winding Unwound

Situated in the middle and the heart of Winding is the Line, where most of Winding’s passengers commute and reside in an endless network of trains.

The top-most realm is the Overline, where Winding is planned and governed.

Underneath the Line is the Underline – a shady underworld where trains are retired.

This world-building experiment was captured in two books I designed: Winding: A Screwed Up World – showcasing the environment. laws, and inhabitants of that world; and Winding Unwound – detailing the creative process behind Winding’s conception and design.
